Lately in the media of the UK all you see is negative portrayals of the working class, associating poverty with wasted benefits and people 'sponging' from the state. I was brought up within a working class environment; my mother was a single parent with 2 jobs, and I have lived in a council house since I was born. I believe having this upbringing has enabled me to gain a better understanding of money and happiness and has made me see that things need to change. I am grateful that I have had this experience and it has opened my eyes to politics, which has always been a main inspiration for my photography work. I wanted this project to illustrate my own fond feelings I have for my past as well as show my audience that the media doesn't always show the whole picture.
